Yesterday, we just finished eating lunch when I felt a sudden gush. I immediately ran to the bathroom to check my underwear. I saw a discharge with a tinge of blood.
Is this normal or is there something wrong?!
I have to admit that I've been really worked-up preparing for our trip. Add to this the stress about some money issues, plus working in advance for my article writing job, and something I did with my husband that the doctor said was still safe to do during this period of pregnancy... O_o...
Our neighbor friend assured us that early pregnancy spotting is normal, but I can't help but worry because we're gonna be on a long and bumpy ride tomorrow. I need to know if everything's ok.
So, we decided to go the doctor earlier today. She did an IE (Internal Exam) on me and said that my uterus is still intact, but tender. She said that "vaginal spotting" could mean several things - miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or it could simply be the normal early pregnancy discharge. She then advised me to have a trans-vaginal ultrasound to see if there's a tear in my uterus that could be the cause, or if my pregnancy is ectopic, and also to check the fetal heartbeat. Nevertheless, the reason for the ultrasound request she wrote down on the slip of paper was threatened abortion. She said that if the doctor doesn't see anything wrong from the ultrasound results, we can go ahead with our trip tomorrow. Just to be sure, she also prescribed some pregnancy-safe medicines for hormones and to relax my uterus (Duvadilan and Duphaston).
I was really terrified and I felt like crying. I kept praying and telling God that I don't want to lose the baby.
So, from the OB, we went to another clinic for the ultrasound. We were relieved to hear our little one's heartbeat for the first time. I had goosebumps! It's amazing to hear another heart beating inside me..and that's my baby! The doctor also said that there's no uterine tear visible and that the fetus is normally positioned inside the uterus. Thank you, Jesus!
So, here's our baby's first ultrasound picture on 7 weeks and 3 days:
