Amazing Facts On How Babies Develop In The Womb

At times, when I'm just lying down and feeling baby move, I can't help but be amazed at how another life can be miraculously formed and grow inside my womb. Indeed, carrying a precious little being inside me is one of the best blessings I have ever received from God. It is also one of the most humbling experiences as I take part with our Creator as He form a new human being and chose me to be that person's mother.

Through the course of my pregnancy, I slowly found myself being protective and wanting good things not for myself, but for my child. Sometimes, I worry and become anxious, but God is faithful to remind me that He is always with us and will provide for us no matter what. True enough, we never lack and His provision is always on time.

I've also learned to be more careful, not just with what I eat, but with the things I do, think about and feel, because I know that these things may have an effect on my baby. My husband and I have become more prayerful, more patient, and more expressive of our love not just for one another, but for our baby as well.

I have just read an article about babies in the womb saying that even before infants are born, their five senses are already working so well, hence, giving them the ability to feel what their moms feel, taste and smell, and create visions in their mind who they think they are and what their life would be outside the womb. Ever since I've read this, I became more determined to let my baby know that he/she is loved, because for me, this is the first and only thing that our baby should know...then, everything else will follow.

Here are the other interesting facts from the Babies In The Womb article on how babies develop and use their senses even while inside the womb:
  • A baby can distinguish between the voice of Mom and that of a stranger at the time of birth
  • Babies dream about their life, experiences, and sensations while they are in the womb.
  • Research has shown babies to be startled at loud noises while within the womb.
  • Babies savor their mother’s meals, picking up the food tastes of a culture before they are born.
  • Babies can remember and respond to a familiar story or song that was repeated to them while in the womb.
  • Babies have been known to react to the experience of amniocentesis by shrinking away from the needle, or, if a needle nicks them, they may turn and attack it.
  • Babies react to pain, stress and the emotions of the mother.

"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed."

Happy Birthday, Honey!

It's my husband Eejay's birthday today and he just turned 28. I never had any problem finding gifts for my husband, probably because I am his wife and I always know what he needs, especially what's lacking in his wardrobe. ;-p I also know the things that interest him like his pet fishies (fighting fish and flowerhorn), aquascaping, computer games, books and basketball.

There are several things that I wanted to buy for him for his birthday, but since I don't have a job right now and I can't afford to buy really expensive gifts, I just got him a red shirt from Penshoppe. It's the thought that counts, di ba?

I also thought of making a birthday wishlist for him. Hehehe. Hopefully, in the coming years, I'll be able to give him more extravagant gifts. He really is the best husband in the world and I want to give him the best, too.

Without further ado, here are the top 7 birthday gifts for men that I want to give my husband.

To my Honey, Happy Birthday! May God reveal more of His love for you everyday and may He grant you with long, satisfied, healthy and successful life. Baby and I love you so much!

Simple Joys

I found this video on YouTube of a cute little girl singing and I can't help but watch it over and over again. Her facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language are really funny, and the way she sang that song was really adorable (even if I don't understand what the song is about)! Hahaha! Go and watch it! She's super cute!

Here's another video of a baby boy who laughs hysterically while his dad rips a piece of paper. Haha! This is awesome! I'll try this with my baby and see if I get the same result..hehe.

If you liked these, you'll find more videos of cute babies on YouTube. It feels great to enjoy simple things in life that watching a child laugh about silly things. :-)

Count Your Blessings

Now that I'm not working and staying at home most of the time, I get easily bored with my life and I have a tendency to feel down and anxious about a lot of things. I also can't help but miss my family in Manila and our life back in Iloilo. I know that these feelings are not healthy for the baby, especially that I am fully aware about the risks of prenatal depression being another emotional health concern for every 1 out of 10 pregnant women, aside from postpartum depression. I refuse to be a part of that statistic!

So, one sure way to drive the blues away is to see beyond my lack and start counting the blessings God has given me. I just want to take this opportunity to share what I am thankful for. :-)

Family and Friends

The support we are getting from our family and friends is very overwhelming, even from the beginning. Thank you for celebrating our victories, for lending us a hand whenever we need help, and for lavishing us with prayers, love, words of encouragement, and also for blessing us financially and with other material things without asking for anything in return.

Hubby's New Job

When we decided to stay here in Koronadal, my husband also started looking for a more stable online job. In a just a few weeks, he was able to land a full-time article writing job for a big SEO company that does not only pay well, but also cover our internet bills. My husband is even more blessed because he finds the job very easy and only works 5 to 6 hours maximum per day instead of 8 hours. This is because he is simply fast and good at what he does. Haha! Thank you, Lord, for your favor and for giving us the strength and wisdom to produce wealth.

Unexpected Blessings

As I've mentioned in my previous post, even if we're staying at my in-laws' house here in Koronadal, we are still maintaining an apartment in Iloilo where we plan to go back to on April next year. That means, we are still paying for the rent and utility bills. Surprisingly, a friend from Manila asked me the other day if she can stay there for an indefinite period of time, since she will be temporarily assigned by her company to work in Iloilo. She agreed to share half of the rent payment, and as a result, we'll have extra money to put in the bank for our baby. Indeed, God is commanding blessings to fill our storehouses! Thank you, Jesus!

Daily Provisions

Ever since we stayed here at Mama Daday's (my mother-in-law), we have been enjoying God's daily provision of our basic needs, such as a home to live in, food and water, free OB check-ups, and a supply of prenatal vitamins and milk, and even occasional treats (trip somewhere, new clothes, etc.).

Loving Husband

I am just happy and thankful to God for giving me a husband who is always there to cheer me up and show how much he loves and cares for me. He just knows what to do or say whenever I'm feeling down...whether it be a kiss, a hug, or bringing me to the mall to eat pizza or whatever I'm craving for. He is simply the best! He is not just my husband, but my best friend too. I love you, Honey!

How about you, what are you thankful for?

Pimple On My Right Cheek, Go Away!

I woke up this morning with a big a pimple on my right cheek. Waaah!

I'm already on my fourth month of pregnancy and this is the first time I grew a pimple. I was trying to think about what  I did or did not do that might have caused this pus-filled, red and swollen zit to take residence on my face...hmmm.

Is it my soap? My blush or face powder perhaps? Or, maybe my pillows are already dirty? Do I touch my face that often? Hmmm...or is this the beginning of the dreaded pregnancy acne?! I hope it's just a one-time zit that I can just sleep off and wait to fade in a few days. But, I have to be careful not to get it infected to avoid pimple marks, and that is to refrain from touching it and to wash my face twice a day.

You see, I'm not really prone to having pimples even if I have combination skin. However, some of those occasional pimples left marks that I recently treated with Stevia-A. I also have a problem with whiteheads and blackheads, especially on the T-zone where my skin is most oily. It was a mistake using that because I noticed that the areas I treated it with became reddish and even more sensitive to sunlight. You really have to be careful with stuff you put on your face.

Before I got married and was still living in Manila, I used to have a purifying facial once every 2 months at Ageless Skincare Center. Unfortunately, when I moved to Iloilo, I wasn't able to find a facial center that matches the service they provide. I haven't had any facial treatments since then, and that was more than a year ago. :-(

I just continued with my own skincare regimen which is really very simple. I mostly use Olay products like their facial wash, toner, and Olay Total Effects daily moisturizer with SPF 15. That's it! I still use these products now that I am expecting. From what I've researched, these products are still safe to use during pregnancy. What you really have to avoid are those with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and retinoid. Betahydroxy acid on the other hand, is safe to use during pregnancy, according to the article I read from Babyzone

When it comes to cosmetics, I don't really put on much and only when I go out. Unlike before when I was still working for an airline company, we were required to wear full makeup everyday, and I hated it. I felt like my skin couldn't breathe. Now, I only use Maybelline's Clear Smooth powder foundation, Avon Simply Pretty cheek tint as my blush and finish off with Maybelline lip balm in cherry. For me, the natural look is still the best.

The More Serious Baby Boy Name Search

The other day, I posted the not-so-serious baby name suggestions my husband and I came up with in case we're having a baby boy. However, while our friends and family are voting, I also did some serious research on baby boy names and their meanings.

Before all these, I told my husband that I like the name Yeohann Jacob. But, he said that he still wants to use the same initials, E and J in case the baby is indeed a boy. So, I started searching the net for variations of Yohan or Johann that starts with the letter E and chanced upon several names with the same meaning, which is beloved.

To cut the long story short, here are the 4 baby boy names I came up with and their corresponding meanings. I asked my mom, my sisters, and 5 close friends to vote for the best.

1. EVAN JED - [gracious gift of God] [beloved of God]

2. EIVAN JACOB - [gracious gift of God] [supplanter, one who follows]

3. EDRIC JOASH - [rich and powerful] [given by the Lord]

4. EUAN JEDRIC - [pronounced as "Yuan", beloved/gracious gift of God]
[JED - beloved of God] [EDRIC - rich and powerful]
                                - [J - from Joey/EJ], [ED - Lolo Ted], [RIC - Lolo Eric]

And the winner is...

#4

"Euan Jedric"

It was a unanimous decision.
Even I voted for this name and my husband liked it, too..hehehe. ;-)

What do you think of this name? I demand an honest opinion! Hahaha! Tell me, how did you choose your baby's name? Did you choose it for its meaning, popularity, or to honor a loved one? Share your thoughts!

The Not-So-Serious Baby Name Search

Whenever people ask what gender we prefer our first baby to be, we always tell them that we would like to have a baby girl. In fact, I have already chosen a name in case we're actually having a female child.

We would call her, ZOEY GRACE.

But, as weeks pass, we can't help but wonder...what if we're having a baby boy? What should we name him? Just the other night, my husband and I tried to think of a nice name for a boy. But, we just ended up with not-so-serious suggestions. I even posted those names on my Facebook wall earlier today and asked our friends and family to vote for the best name. I noted that it's just for fun and we're not really choosing any of those names. But, they were all so serious in voting, which made it even more hilarious...hahaha! Anyway, here is the screen capture of that wallpost.

Guess what name got the most votes?

Haha! It's #5! If we name our kid "Eric Joey" and EJ as his nickname, it's like giving him triple junior...^_^...poor boy! ;-p

At 15-16 Weeks

We went to the OB earlier and I'm now on my 15th to 16th week. I am officially starting on my second trimester. Yahoo! My blood pressure is still the same (100/70), and I gained 1 pound, so that makes me 125 lbs. heavy. Baby's fundal height is 10 cm. I was given a new set of vitamins called Hemobion OB and was reminded to drink milk (Anmum) religiously.

There's really nothing much to blog about today. I'm just really happy and hoping that I continue to feel better, and let the following months pass by without any problem. I know that God is in control of my life and my baby's as well. I also thank Him for having a mom-in-law who makes sure that I am well fed and taken care of. Most of all, I thank God for my husband who is very patient and loving with a (sometimes ^_^) demanding pregnant wife like me.
